One of the nation’s largest law firms, Vinson & Elkins, today announced plans to move its firm to The Union Dallas in 2018. Vinson & Elkins, a leading global law firm, will lease approximately 80,000 square feet and occupy three floors of the signature 22-floor office building in RED Development’s mixed-use project. Located at Field Street and Cedar Springs Road, The Union is a new office, residential and retail project that will total approximately 800,000 square feet and is scheduled to open in 2017. Phil Puckett and Harlan Davis of CBRE represented Vinson & Elkins in lease negotiations. John Brownlee and Sarah Hinkley of Peloton represented the landlord, along with Paul Rowsey of RED Development.

Vinson & Elkins’ office space in the top three floors of the office tower will include balconies with 360-degree views of Uptown, Downtown, the Arts District, Klyde Warren Park, Victory Plaza and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Serving as a connection point for many of Dallas’ most vibrant business, residential and entertainment districts, The Union will offer premier amenities to the more than 145 attorneys who will occupy the new space.

Vinson & Elkins chose the office tower because the project provides easy access to many main thoroughfares into and out of the Downtown and Uptown areas. It is also ideally located within walking distance of Dallas’ premier sports, entertainment, museum and outdoor park venues. The contemporary blue-hued office tower offers sweeping views of the city with unparalleled conveniences and amenities to tenants. Designed by Dallas-based architect, HKS, Inc., the project will include a 60,000 square foot Tom Thumb grocery store on the ground floor to provide convenient on-site grocery shopping. The development will also include dining options ranging from white tablecloth to fast-casual.

“Once we flew to Phoenix to see RED Development’s mixed use development known as Cityscape and all of its retail and residential components, I then quickly understood what The Union was going to become,” said Phil Puckett, executive vice president of CBRE. “The Union is a perfect fit for such a prestigious law firm as Vinson & Elkins. Because of The Union’s extremely efficient floor plate, they were able to substantially reduce their square footage, which is not uncommon in the new law firm workplace strategies that we are seeing today.”

RED Development, the project developer, announced The Union in May 2014, and is also leading the design and construction for the project. Located across the street from American Airlines Center and delivering in 2017, The Union will be a Class AA mixed-use center that includes a striking 21,000 square foot green space and events plaza created by top Texas landscape designer, OJB.
